Why Do Alcoholics Continue to Drink?
Answering the most frustrating question for both the alcoholic and loved ones of alcoholics
More often than not, we do not know.
That inability to answer ‘why?’ drives so many of us into further despair. It did for me.
I was obsessed with answering the question of why I drank the way I did and I was convinced that no healing could occur until I could figure an answer out.
By letting go of the obsession to answer why, you actually give yourself the grace and space for healing to occur.
I only discovered why I had become an alcoholic after I stopped feeling I needed to answer the question to heal.
I had to tell myself, ‘I don’t care how I got to this point, I can accept that I am an alcoholic, and I am willing to do anything moving forward to heal from that.’
Learning to let go has been one of the most rewarding and difficult challenges since entering into a life of recovery.
That’s all I have got for this week.
Love to you all,
Kyle

This applies to so much more than just alcohol. Some things are exactly what they are and can't be explained... letting go of needing to know 'the why' is a great key to happiness... being satisfied with the unknown or unanswered parts of life.
