Co-dependency - what is it and why is it coupled so tightly with addiction?
Welcome to another week of the Chapter 3 Newsletter, I hope you all are enjoying the dive into the summertime season!
The next focus for the podcast and newsletter will be to try to help loved ones of the addict connect with why we behave the way that we do.

We wrapped up the month of May where we released episodes cover the five practices of maintaining a life in active recovery: Movement, Gratitude/Awe, Vision, Spiritual Connection and Community.
The final practice of maintaining a life in Active Recovery is that of community. What’s amazing to me in reflecting back on my time isolating in my struggle with alcohol is how de-humanized the experience and my life was. Rediscovering the human connection has been nothing short of a miracle.
After all the build up the podcast is finally diving into the “Big Book” of Alcoholic’s Anonymous, starting with the chapter titled “There is a Solution”. My choice to lead with this portion of the literature is to inspire hope.

How Are Codependency and Addiction Linked?
Codependency (definition here - as I had no clue what is was prior to entering recovery) and addiction form naturally together like two peas in a pod. This is a difficult self-reflection at times for loved ones of alcoholics. Note - This is not shifting blame or responsibility AT ALL off of the addict, but for long term serenity in a relationship, both the addiction and co-dependent behaviors have to be addressed.
Supporting Loved Ones Through Challenges
tl;dr (even though the article’s short): establish healthy boundaries, don’t forget to take care of yourself.
That’s it! All the best,
